Acworth Snapshot

Acworth has been a city for more than 145 years, making it one of Cobb County’s oldest and most historic cities. Today, the more than 300 historic homes and buildings in Acworth are an important testimony to the city’s past.

At the turn of the 20th century, a number of architecturally significant Craftsman-style bungalows were built in the city. These historic bungalows and neighborhoods have given birth to Lake Acworth Village, a historic reproduction that includes authentic details such as Craftsman columns and trim, covered porches, sunrooms, cedar shake gables and lantern street lights.

The Atlanta Regional Commission has designated Acworth as Cobb County’s No. 1 most livable city because of its quality of life as measured in such areas as location, educational opportunities, public safety, and parks and recreation.

Acworth’s schools include new primary and middle schools, a magnet high school and an excellent private school, North Cobb Christian. In the fall of 2006, Acworth was the only city in the state of Georgia to open two new schools: McCall Primary and Barber Middle School.

The two newest schools signify the importance of education in Acworth while the entire Cobb County School System continues to receive national acclaim. Acworth is also home to the fastest growing technical college in the state, North Metro Technical College, and Kennesaw State University is just minutes away.
